Carpal Tunnel Syndrome



Carpal tunnel is a cumulative problem usually not cause by a single trauma but by many small repetitive insults. Carpal tunnel is just as the name says a tunnel through your wrist in which ligaments and nerves pass. As these tissues are insulted the become inflamed and can place pressure on the nerves giving a numb feeling or even pain or loss of strength. Even worse if left untreated with continued insult scare tissue forms which must be surgically removed with this procedure causing scarring of its own which often requires multiple visits and some permanent loss of function. Chiropractics role in carpal tunnel is a supportive role. We provide ergonomic education, wrist bracing if needed, and pain management during the recovery.

Another condition which may present as similar to carpal tunnel is a wrist subluxation. The wrist consists of eight carpal bones any displacement no matter how slight can push on the carpal tunnel and elicit the same nerve entrapment symptoms.
